The Truth About Love (2012)
Although initially viewed as another face in the late-'90s crowd of teen pop acts, Pink (professionally known as P!nk) quickly transcended and outgrew that label with her combination of pop songcraft and powerhouse, rock-influenced vocals. Born Alecia Moore on September 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Pink received her nickname as a child, years before she dyed her hair accordingly. She grew up in a musical family and was a regular on the Philadelphia club scene by the age of 13, first as a dancer and then as a backing vocalist for the local hip-hop group Schoolz of Thought. At 14, she began writing her own songs; the same year, a local DJ at Club Fever began inviting her on-stage to sing a song every Friday.

A lot has happened to P!nk since the release of her 2008 breakup album, Funhouse, most notably a reconciliation with her estranged husband, Carey Hart, and subsequent birth of their child in 2011. P!nk wrestles with these two life-changing events and many other thorny issues on her 2012 album, The Truth About Love, a vibrant mess of a record that finds the pop star embracing every one of her contradictions. Alone among the class of 2000 -- a group that roughly includes such other new millennium stars as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore, and Jessica Simpson -- P!nk comes across as an actual adult, eager to dive into the muck of grown-up emotions, expanding and deepening her music without succumbing to stuffy pretension. She may be deeply invested in being a wife and mother but she's keenly aware of what's happening outside of her house, offering a clever spin on Ke$ha's freak empowerment on the opening "Are We All We Are," enlisting Fun.'s Nate Ruess as a duet partner on "Just Give Me a Reason," and fiendishly stealing some of the Black Keys' moves and retailoring them for the dancefloor on "How Come You're Not Here." P!nk deftly weaves these new threads into a tapestry that contains a few of her signature moves -- there is a handful of confessional power ballads and snotty, funny pure pop disguised as dance hits -- and some surprises, including cameos from Lily Allen ("True Love") and Eminem ("Here Comes the Weekend") and a title track that is as sunny and carnivalesque as a '60s surf-pop sensation. Sometimes the transitions are too sudden, causing some aural whiplash -- that clomping, heavy "Here Comes the Weekend" wouldn't fit neatly into any sequence -- but its ragged edges underscore the essential appeal of The Truth About Love: nothing about it is neat, it shifts courses and refutes itself, it's "nasty and salty," as P!nk herself sings about true love. It's weird and willfully, proudly human, a big pop album about real emotions and one of P!nk's wildest rides.

After her three-year career with the contemporary R&B girl group Choice, in 2000 she released her first single "There You Go," from her debut album Can't Take Me Home. The song garnered commercial success, peaking at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2001, she released her second, more pop rock-oriented, studio album, Missundaztood. The album went on to become a critical and commercial success. The album produced four singles, "Get the Party Started," "Don't Let Me Get Me," "Just Like a Pill" and "Family Portrait," each entering the Top 20, with "Get the Party Started" being her highest charting solo single (tied with "Most Girls":wink: until "So What" in 2008, peaking at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In the United States, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 281,000 copies in its first week becoming her first number one album there, and has been certified double platinum by RIAA after shipping over two million copies.[2] The album also debuted at number-one in Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Sweden, and Switzerland. The Truth About Love was announced as Australia's biggest selling album of the year. According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), it was the seventh global best-selling album of 2012 with sales of 2.6 million copies.[3] As of July 2014, the album has sold 2 million copies in the US,[4] and almost 6 million copies worldwide, becoming her most successful album since 2001's Missundaztood.[5]
The first single from The Truth About Love, "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" was released in July 2012, the song sat firmly at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks, and went Platinum for over a million copies sold, as well as charting inside the top ten in several other countries. The follow up second single, "Try" received matching success and preceded Pink's fourth Hot 100 #1 hit, third single "Just Give Me a Reason" which made The Truth About Love Pink's first album since her 2001 album Missundaztood to spawn more than two Hot 100 top 10-charting singles, therefore adding up to fourteen Top 10 hits overall. As of July 2013, "Just Give Me a Reason" is the second best selling song of 2013 in the US.[6] To support the album, Pink began her Truth About Love Tour in February 2013. The tour continued through 2013 and included American, Australian and European legs and ended on January 31, 2014.
